The newer the phone, the weaker the battery

It is impossible to delay the development of a new generation of batteries.

Phone makers have made a lot of hardware and software tweaks to make them more efficient, freeing up more battery space, but at some point, new battery technology is indispensable.

For years, the promise of a new battery technology is still a promise and has never been in the real world. The current battery technology in smart phones is impressive, but as the hardware becomes more demanding, the battery cannot keep up.

Georffrey A. Flower in The Washington recently tested measuring the battery life of 13 flagship phones from 2017 to 2018. Most people think the new battery will take longer but the results are different.

As you can see in the chart above, some older (gray) phones like Pixel 2 or iPhone 8 also have buffalo batteries than new ones (blue) like Pixel 3 or iPhone XS.

There are many factors that affect the phone's battery life, but the main factor is probably the screen. New technologies such as OLED will consume more power, or so will the use of high-resolution screens and maximum brightness.

iPhone XR and Galaxy Note 9 are two phones that beat all others. iPhone XR uses LCD screen with low resolution, while Samsung for Note 9 battery is bigger than its predecessor (4.000mAH while Note 8 uses only 3,300mAH battery).
