On each lens there are many separate symbols and other specialized terms. Each symbol has its own meanings and uses. Therefore, the photographer needs to hold each sign to make it easier to take pictures.

As a newcomer to photography, you will have a lot of things to learn including symbols on the camera lens. This is the basic knowledge because the symbols on the lens will serve for the process of pressing the machine, adjusting the mode to take photos for different purposes. Therefore, grasping and understanding each character on the device will help you a lot during the shooting process.

AF - (Autofocus) : Standard abbreviation automatically focuses.

AF-S - (Autofocus Silent) : Nikon firm uses this character set to indicate quiet focus on the lens.

AL- (Aspherical Lens): Abbreviation of lens information with aspherical lens.

APO - (Apochromatic) : This group of characters is only available on Sigma tubes with only a feature that minimizes color retention.

DT : The symbol on Sony lens belongs to the tube system compatible with the camera body with a crop sensor.

DX : Symbols on Nikon lenses belong to the compatible tube system of Crop sensor, APS-C.

ED - (Extra-low Dispersion) : Lens type name minimizes dispersion to help keep colors true.

EF - (Electro Focus) : character used on Canon lenses since 1987 to introduce lenses with autofocus systems.

EF-S - (Electro Focus Short back-focus) : on Canon lenses since 2003 belongs to Canon compatible lens system Crop sensor.

EX: Sigma's high-end lens system.

f / xx (f-stop nuber) : the largest aperture index (maximum aperture) of the lens. With a zoom lens can record two aperture indicators, for example: f / 4-5.6. This indicator means that the previous number is the largest aperture and the following is the smallest aperture of the lens, there are also a number of lenses that record the ratio: 1: 4-5.6.
