The latest iPhone emojis on iOS 17.4
Brand new emoji in iOS 17.4
The new emojis are one of many features included in the iOS 17.4 update. Although Apple released 118 new emojis with iOS 17.4 and iPadOS 17.4 in March 2024, the six emojis below are brand new ones that most people will be excited to try out.
Green lemon slice
Lime is a popular emoji request around the world - so much so that a Mexican restaurant, Lime Fresh Mexican Grill, started a petition on Change.org asking for such an emoji.
So if you've ever made a dish that included green lemons but ended up using the yellow lemon emoji to represent it, you'll be happy to know that iOS finally has the emoji you need.
Brown mushrooms
Another emoji from the Food & Drink category that the Unicode Consortium approved in 2023 is the brown mushroom emoji. While the red and white mushroom emoji is a fan favorite, the new emoji is a more realistic mushroom symbol.
Phoenix
Apple also introduced emoji for the phoenix, a famous creature in Greek mythology. This emoji symbolizes rebirth.
The chain is broken
If you're trying to represent a broken bond with a symbol, you may find yourself searching for an appropriate emoji. Luckily, iOS 17.4 includes a broken chain emoji.
Shake your head horizontally
You'll also find two new iOS emojis in the smileys category. One of them is the horizontal head shaking emoji, which is definitely the perfect way to say no to something calmly!
Shake your head vertically
Want to tell your friends that you're having fun hanging out with them without having to type? Well, now you can just send them the vertical head shaking emoji and call it a day!

New emoji variations in iOS 17.4
Aside from the six brand new emoji concepts and the gender-neutral family emoji, the remaining 108 emoji are slight variations of existing options.
Although you could find these emojis before updating to iOS 17.4, you'll notice that the emojis you have are all facing left. With the release of iOS 17.4, Apple introduced the following right-facing emojis:

All of these emojis are available with three gender options and five different skin tones. To access the new emojis, simply update your iPhone or iPad to iOS 17.4 or iPadOS 17.4.
