The Explosive Kiss: A thrilling South Korean romantic comedy.
Dynamite Kiss, Ahn Eun Jin's latest drama, has just aired and immediately topped the ratings charts. The drama blends romance and humor with the deep internal struggles of the two main characters.
The drama *Explosive Kiss* delves into class, family pride, and self-respect, showcased through the superb acting and excellent chemistry of the two main characters, Jang Ki Yong and Ahn Eun Jin.
What's so appealing about an explosive kiss?
Go Da-rim (Ahn Eun-jin) is daydreaming on her way to a presentation at a vocational school. She's attending school to get a civil servant job, but it's been taking up too much of her time. Go Da-rim is now over 30 and has been doing it for five years, to the point where her teachers call her a "zombie " student .
Meanwhile, Gong Ji-hyeok (Jang Ki-yong) is a young consultant who develops startups into valuable companies. A bidding war erupts to acquire a company he's working with; it's being sold for ten times its original price, but with one condition: He must secure the dedication of a top AI programmer .
Because Da-rim's younger sister had lied to her future in-laws about her employment status, she advised her not to attend the wedding. Therefore, she took Da-rim on a trip to Juju Island. Da-rim happily agreed, hoping it would help her forget everything for a few days, especially the pain from her recent breakup with her boyfriend, who coincidentally turned out to be the programmer Ji-hyeok was looking for.
Fate brought them together in a bizarre situation: Da-rim mistook Ji-hyeok for attempting suicide while standing on a cliff. However, she failed to save him and ended up both in the hospital. As a result, he demanded she pay the hospital bills. Upon discovering they were staying at the same hotel, she confronted him, but he offered her a favorable deal, realizing she had connections to a programmer he wanted to hire. From here, their dramatic love story, a journey from hatred to inseparable love, begins.
The most impressive aspect of Explosive Kiss
There are so many coincidences in the first episode of Dynamite Kiss that it would take a long time to list them all. It's been a long time since we've seen two characters linked together by so many plot twists in a Korean drama, and what surprised viewers was that the first episode didn't really give them a clear picture of the actual storyline.
Gong Ji-hyeok didn't believe in love at all — until he kissed Go Da-rim at the end of the first episode. When their date ended, she disappeared. But at some point in the future, Da-rim is working for him at a baby product company. Only this time, she's pretending to be married to her neighbor and friend, Kim Sun-woo (Kim Mu-jun), and also pretending to be the mother of Sun-woo's son, Joon (Chae Ja-woon).
As mentioned, there are plenty of coincidences, hidden identities, and misunderstandings to overcome. Korean romantic comedies have many of these elements, but *Explosive Kiss* has even more, and it leaves viewers shaking their heads in frustration. It seems like every few minutes, romantic music plays as one of the main characters looks at the other in a different light than before. This is distracting and doesn't really give viewers a chance to get to know both main characters immediately.
The explosive kiss didn't rely on dramatic clichés. It relied on two actors understanding the silence, the discomfort, and the quiet connection. Watching Da-rim slowly emerge from her shyness and gain self-confidence brought a greater sense of satisfaction than any grand declaration of love in a Korean drama .
