The ancient sarcophagus was discovered during road construction in Tuzla, Istanbul
Construction workers found an ancient coffin while working on the road in Istanbul's Tuzla district. According to the latest published information.
Accordingly, an excavator was stuck, temporarily suspended because of an obstruction of a strange object under Tersaneler Avenue in Tuzla. Here, the workers discovered an ancient sarcophagus and then quickly told the police.
Not long after that, police arrived and sealed off the scene, using security measures to ensure the safety of the coffin and informed the Archaeological Museum of Istanbul.
Archaeologists have taken samples from ancient coffin for further research but have yet to give any detailed conclusions but will soon announce in the future. However, the initial statement said that this sarcophagus may belong to the second-century century BC.
