Speaking to Hurriyet Daily News, Aykut Cinaroglu, the head of the excavation and professor at Ankara University, said that he and his research team had suddenly discovered an ancient secret tunnel at the site. The settlement is estimated at 3,300 years of age .

Alacahoyuk was known as the religious capital of the Hittites, ancient Anatolia around 1600 BC. And Aykut Cinaroglu said that this tunnel is under the castle, can be extended and deep into the city.
