What can Tecno's new AI agent do that ChatGPT can't?

Recently, Tecno impressed us with its unique modular smartphone concept, and they're doing it again with the launch of their new EllaClaw AI agent, powered by OpenClaw (according to Android Central). EllaClaw is the first system-level OpenClaw system deployed globally on a smartphone – and certainly not the last.

 

What is OpenClaw?

In case you didn't know, OpenClaw is a tool that's been making waves in the AI ​​world for the past few months. OpenClaw isn't just a chatbot – it's a complete AI assistant. You grant it access to your computer, and then it uses the applications and files on your system to complete tasks. OpenClaw can do anything from scheduling calendar appointments to booking hotel rooms and cleaning up old files.

 

OpenClaw has received a lot of attention, and it has largely lived up to those expectations. In fact, OpenClaw is so good that its developer was recently hired by OpenAI. However, until now, the technology has been largely limited to computers, with only a few custom ports for Android phones. EllaClaw will change that.

What is EllaClaw?

Tecno developed its own version of OpenClaw.

 

Ella is a built-in AI assistant from phone manufacturer Tecno. The company used OpenClaw (open source) and integrated this tool into Ella so that it could access the phone at the system level. You can use natural language to give instructions to EllaClaw, and the tool will use everything available to complete that task.

One key difference between a typical AI assistant and EllaClaw is that EllaClaw can utilize multiple applications to accomplish a task. For example, EllaClaw can review your messages, notes, and calendar to create a comprehensive schedule for your day, or summarize notifications and display the messages most likely to be important to you. EllaClaw will also attempt to learn your habits to provide relevant information at the most opportune time.

Tecno stated that EllaClaw is built with privacy safeguards in mind. User data is "isolated and inaccessible to third parties or unauthorized users"—this is crucial, given the level of system access that OpenClaw implementations require to function properly.

Could EllaClaw be a sign of things to come?

 

EllaClaw is the first OpenClaw implementation from a smartphone manufacturer to be offered globally, but it wasn't the only app announced in March. Several other manufacturers are also developing their own solutions:

• Xiaomi : Xiaomi announced the closed beta of miClaw on March 6th.
• Honor : Honor announced Lobster Universe on March 10th.
• Huawei : Huawei released the beta version of Xiaoyi Claw on March 11th.
• Nubia : Nubia announced its native OpenClaw deployment on March 15th.

EllaClaw stands out for several reasons:

• As mentioned, this is the first product to be sold outside of the Chinese market.
• It's integrated directly into the operating system, rather than simply being added to existing AI tools.
• It has features that are readily available to users – while most other products are still in the testing phase.

EllaClaw will be available for beta testing in the coming months, with more details and registration to be announced later.

Given its open-source nature and the explosive popularity of OpenClaw, it's likely that more manufacturers will use it rather than develop their own AI.
