Survival tips in DayZ players need to know

Despite receiving mixed reviews on Steam, DayZ remains one of the most in-depth survival games available on the platform.

While Rust and Conan Exiles are strong contenders in the genre, nothing quite matches the scope and scaryness of DayZ.

Players will begin their adventure at a randomly spawned location, usually near the beach at the southernmost tip. All equipment provided is nothing but a flare, a bandage and clothes on the back. With these, everyone will need to hunt, hide, and survive the numerous enemies of Chernarus.

Players can start their journey if they find some food and water, even a working gun. People shouldn't get too attached to that pristine shotgun. Survivors should know, a shotgun is just the beginning. It's an early game weapon intended for self-defense, not attack. Weapons are really only available in military bases, for players who like to gank.

Anyone wanting to survive in the DayZ world will need to slow down, find allies or a group. The following DayZ survival tips will help new players survive their adventures in Chernarus.

Survival tips in DayZ players need to know

Start with small things

When entering the world of Chernarus, players can feel overwhelmed. There was a large open world that existed before that, and people started getting equipped with a few small items, which were essentially unusable at this point in the game. The first goal is to locate the food, whether it's a can of beans or a chicken roaming the street.

Regardless of the type of food, survivors need a sharp object to pry open cans or cut chicken into pieces. Many people probably won't have access to a knife or ax so soon, so the best option is an improvised knife made of stone.

The beach is the perfect spot to look for a little rock. Once the stone has been found, the player can equip the stone and then choose the option to craft a knife of their choice. This rock can be used as a weapon, but is better first of all in quests involving food.

Find out where to loot items

Anyone who plays DayZ properly will spend most of their time looting the game world. To prepare for a fight, survivors will need better gear.

Therefore, finding out the loot locations should be a priority. First, the Piano House, which has 3 doors and a piano on the first floor, usually has ammunition, guns, food, and clothes that appear randomly. Next, the player should check the police stations for weapons, ammunition and clothes.

Finally, explore military tents that can yield premium weapon accessories, food, military clothing, backpacks, and occasional weapons. Although the collected items depend on luck, however, there is a high chance that gamers will find something useful every time they visit a new location.

Items the player needs

Of course, a game based on loot would have almost mandatory equipment. First of all, a stone knife like the aforementioned will always be useful. Second, bandages and rags will save lives if the character falls into the scrap heap. In the end, a sawed-out IZH-43 pistol can do wonders.

Besides fighting off zombies and occasional ambushes at close range, the sawed shotgun will be very useful if the player is ambushed. Most bandits will ask the player to drop their weapons and equipment immediately.

They may not, however, test a survivor's backpack, which will fit a sawed pistol if it's the right size. Then there will be prisoners who can pull it quickly and explode. Wanting to use this trick will be a bit troublesome because gamers need to find a shotgun and a hacksaw to saw the barrel.
