Recently, a short video of Vietnam seen from outer space has received great attention from many people, especially Vietnamese users. In the video, viewers can observe the northern region and some central provinces at a rare height.

The video was shared by Mr. Oleg Artemyev, a Russian cosmonaut who used to work at the ISS space station. Most recently, this astronaut in space was from March 18, 2022. He returned to earth in September 2022 after 195 years in space.

Oleg Artemyev regularly shares many activities on the ISS and footage of Earth on a blog specializing in space science, along with his YouTube and TikTok channels. The clips were all shared by him at the end of the mission.

Before the video of Vietnam seen from space, Mr. Oleg Artemyev had posted many videos of scenes from other countries such as the US, China, and Indonesia. These videos were all recorded by him while on a mission aboard the International Space Station. Currently, the Russian cosmonaut is on Earth.

When the video went viral on social media, many assumed that Oleg Artemyev shared the video while in space. But the truth is that it's impossible to post videos on TikTok and be active on social media in space. Because connecting to the Internet in space with a distance of nearly 400 km from Earth is a luxury. The level of ping (latency) that astronauts have to experience is often at 240,000-1.4 million ms. Some people bring personal laptops to keep in touch with family. However, usage is very limited and interoperability is low.
