Network Administration - We are pleased to continue the series of introductions to Google Latitude, which is a very useful service for locating the new relatives Google provides in its range of services Mobile phones or laptops with GPS support. However there is another way that you still get those functions and privacy on any old computer that uses a Wi-Fi system; Google Latitude can pinpoint your location with an error of only 100 steps when you're using a laptop that doesn't support GPS.

This process works through Skyhook's Wi-Fi map and triangulation calculation technology (triangulation). The result is not as accurate as a GPS signal and avoids GPS positioning becoming useless in rural areas that are not covered. Google has added another way to Google Latitude to increase the binding. In this article we will show you how to find your location to enable that feature in Firefox or Internet Explorer without GPS support.

Sign in and install Google Latitude if necessary. Click the maximize button in the upper right corner of the window. Click the Privacy link and select the Detect your location button. Click the Learn more link. Click Get Gears and select Install Gears . Run the installer, restart Firefox, return to Google Latitude. Approve alerts and click Allow .

Now when you visit Google Latitude, this program will triangulate your location via Wi-Fi. If you change your location yourself, simply reset Privacy preferences to restore auto-location.

Find you in Google Maps

You can also enable similar auto-locating in Google Maps in Firefox browser after a few other settings. Install Geode and restart Firefox. Then add Greasemonkey if not currently enabled. Click Add to Firefox and Install Now . Restart ff and install Google Maps & Geode - Together At Last. Click Install in the upper right corner and press Install again.
