Samsung Electronics has started producing the 2.4 Gb / s HBM2 8GB DRAM memory branded Aquabolt that can be used for supercomputers and AI solutions.
South Korean tech giant said the latest DRAM could handle 307GB of data in a second, even, the system could handle 1.2TB of data per second.
Samsung thinks this memory will reach 2.4Gbps by putting 8 levels of 8Gb chips on a buffer chip.
Samsung said the new product is a super high-end product, aimed at supercomputers, artificial intelligence solutions, and the most advanced graphics cards on the market.
By boosting the product with its predecessor Flarebolt with speeds of 1.6Gbps and 2Gbps, the company said it will expand to triple its market share in the DRM HBM2 market.
Technology giant Korea has recorded a record profit from chip business last year. The company estimates the operating profit of 53.6 trillion won in 2017, nearly double the previous year. Their semiconductor equipment business is estimated to contribute 35 trillion won to total sales.
Samsung is the world's largest supplier of chips and memory, including DRAM and NAND. Samsung overthrew Intel to take first place in semiconductor equipment sales last year, for the first time in 24 years.
