Russia asked Apple to deliver the source code to investigate
In an investigation of espionage behavior, Russia asked Apple and SAP software corporation to submit the source code to authorized government agencies to prove that their products were not in violation.
This request was made by the Russian Communications Minister Nikolai Nikiforov. He met with the CEO of Apple in Russia and the CEO of SAP. The reason is that the Ministry expressed concern about the security, consumer privacy and data protection of business users, which was raised in a recent statement by the Russian Ministry of Communications.
Nikiforov said: " Obviously, companies that provide source code for their programs do not hide anything, but companies that do not intend to cooperate with Russia on this issue may be hiding the position. something in their product " .
The Reuters news agency said the request could be a response to sanctions imposed by the US and EU on Russia because of the crisis in Ukraine. Earlier, the US launched a series of new sanctions, including the banning of three Russian banks, including VTB, the country's second largest bank. Meanwhile, the EU also agreed to hit Russia's economic sector, making the situation between the West and Russia the most intense since the Cold War.
However, Nikiforov said it was the recent revelations of Edward Snowden 's US intelligence that made Russia skeptical about the security of foreign software and machinery. To clarify the above statement, he led Microsoft's case. The US software giant has been supplying Windows operating systems and other products since 2003 with Atlas , a technology organization that reports to the Russian Ministry of Communications.
For the two most powerful US and European technology companies, the source code is one of the most sensitive business secrets. Apple is the most valuable company in the world today and famous for its mobile devices, computers running on copyrighted software are strictly protected. Meanwhile, SAP is the fourth largest software company in the world and the largest technology company in Germany, providing financial management tools for leading companies. Of course, SAP is also very cautious with its source code.
Currently, neither Apple nor SAP have made any comments. However, both companies certainly do not feel satisfied with this request with fears that they will lose control of their proprietary source code. Failure to comply with Russian " orders ", Apple and SAP products may not be allowed in government agencies.
