Open the Chinese malicious database

Last weekend KnownSec officially opened to share with the global security community a huge database of malicious codes discovered on Chinese websites.

Zhao Wei - CEO of KnownSec - said the database was built based on the information gathered by a scanning tool that checks nearly 2 million Chinese websites every day.

It is expected that this week, Mr. Zhao will have a presentation detailing the above database at the Forum on Rapid Response to Emergency Security Situations (FIRST) to be held in Kyoto ( Japan).

KnownSec claims that its database provides the most up-to-date information on the security status of Chinese websites. Not only that, the number of websites named in this database is also the most.

For each site, KnownSec's database will provide details on when the website is infected with malicious code, details of malicious code will be inserted on the site as well as what anti-virus software the website uses to protect. This database contains tens of thousands of different malicious models.

Mr. Zhao said every day KnownSec discovered over 100 completely new Trojan Downloader. Each of these malicious code, if infected on a PC, can simultaneously download up to 10 different types of malicious code.

The database also provides a list of other Chinese websites that are currently infected with malicious code. About half of KnownSec's malicious code-detected websites are also considered malicious by Google each day and have a full user warning on the search results website.

Mr. Zhao said security companies and national security agencies could send access requests to KnownSec's database. Information can be used to enhance the detection of anti-virus software for malware.
