Microsoft is not a character who participates in the OLPC project from the beginning. At that time, Professor Nicholas Negroponte of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology came up with this idea, to bring cheap laptops to children in poor countries and developing countries.

The initial goal of the project is to build laptops with a price of just over $ 100 a bit. However, in fact, the first XO laptop shipment was shipped at a price of up to 200 USD, which is double the original estimate.

Therefore, the attitude of developing countries' governments for OLPC is also bland. With a range of $ 200, many places have opted to choose Intel's ClassMate PC, with a more advanced and more modern configuration.

For example, if OLPC uses only low-cost AMD processors, of course, the ClassMate PC will be equipped with Intel chips.

In order to enhance the appeal of its products, OLPC has actively negotiated with Microsoft so that the Windows operating system can land on an XO computer. A streamlined Windows version, exclusively for low-cost laptops, will be tested on a $ 100 laptop platform from June.

However, if there is a need, users can still choose the free Linux operating system instead of Windows, because OLPC's intention is to maintain both operating systems in parallel.

The OLPC main application package is called Sugar, developed by Red Hat. This is an educational software suite compatible with the special blue-white screen of the XO laptop.
