Add an effort to bring cheap computers to people
The nonprofit organization 'Every Laptop One Laptop' (OLPC) has just signed a contract with Amazon, the world's largest retail site, to provide low-cost laptops.
Non-profit organization " Every single laptop child " (OLPC) has just signed a contract with Amazon, the world's largest retail site, to provide low-cost laptops.
The online retailer will help OLPC promote the Give 1 Get 1 program (G1G1) which starts in late November. This is a program where users can buy 2 XO laptops for $ 400, of which, Buy one will be used and one will be used for charity for children in developing countries.
It is hoped that cooperating with Amazon will help OLPC solve the problems it faces when conducting the G1G1 program alone. The OLPC program was founded by Professor Nicholas Negroponte with the aim of creating cheap laptops for students in developing countries at a price of under 100 USD.
The XO laptop has two colors of green and white, which can exploit the wireless network (mesh - networking) feature to connect to the Internet and download educational software.
Many countries have shown interest in using the XO, but very well-known is a non-profit project for students and high school students to own a cheap laptop.
The XO-2 is expected to be released in 2010
At the same time, OLPC also plans to launch the second generation of the XO in 2010. The new device will be about half the size of the current XO version with 2 touch screens. 16x9 and touch keyboard will replace the traditional keyboard.
The price of this laptop is also expected to be under 100 USD, which is in the range of 80 USD.
