Nvidia releases urgent security update package for Kepler GTX 700 and 600 series GPUs, users note
Intel has just released an emergency driver package to fix a series of security-related issues that have been reported recently.
This is a 'WHQL-certified' display driver update pack, released for a range of 'old' Nvidia GeForce Kepler desktop GPU models GeForce GTX 600 and GTX 700 series, as well as GTX TITAN, TITAN Z and TITAN Black. Therefore, many people may be surprised by this announcement as Nvidia has in fact ended driver support for the Kepler GPU platform for a while.
However, it should be noted that this is not a generic Game Ready driver update package that supports new graphics cards or is optimized for newly released games. Instead, it's a security-oriented driver update, designed to fix a number of security issues that have arisen and been reported over time. Nvidia has previously stated that it will provide security updates for the Kepler architecture through September 2024, and it seems the company has kept its word.
However, Nvidia did not provide details about the fixed vulnerabilities on the changelog. Instead, the company said everything will be shared in a security bulletin that will be published in February. So we still don't know if the issues have been resolved or still exist.
The Kepler architecture was first introduced by Nvidia with the once-popular GeForce 600 product line in 2012. Following that success, more than a year later, the GeForce 700 series continued to be released, coming with a number of improvements. important advances related to the Kepler design. The structure is named after Johannes Kepler, a German mathematician and key figure in the 17th century scientific revolution.
