The domestic laptop market in 2008 saw the entry of many new faces, such as Samsung, Axioo, MSI and BenQ. These brands penetrate the market by a series of models, from office, entertainment to business people. One of the "moves" to attract customers from other brands is to reduce the price of these new companies to apply thoroughly. Typically, the Pico netbook line of Axioo (Indonessia) reduces 40%. When launched, the product cost 8 million, now only 5 million.

Mr. Tran Huy Thong, the owner of a laptop shop on Nguyen Dinh Chieu Street, District 3, HCMC, said that due to being unfamiliar to domestic consumers, these brands had to build their names by attractive prices. In parallel, there are a series of promotions to stimulate demand.

However, consumer interest in these brands has not yet progressed. Mr. Nguyen Van Hung, the owner of a shop in Thu Duc district, said his side has hardly entered these brands because domestic customers are still not familiar with them. According to Mr. Hung, laptops from Indonesia and Taiwan are equally effective as compared to domestic brands with the same configuration. Not only that, they have their own strengths. For example, MSI has a slim body, while BenQ inherits pretty good impact resistance from its electronic products.

These brands are also present in major electronics stores, but their sales are not high. Ms. Tran Thi Minh Tam, in charge of Phong Vu Computer Supermarket, Ho Chi Minh City, shared, with the same configuration and the same price, consumers still choose Acer. If more advanced models are needed, attention goes to HP, Dell or Sony .

Samsung is a leading electronics brand in Vietnam, but its laptops are also not popular. In particular, there is no official distribution unit in the country but this product only exists through quota. The device has a very stylish design, strong configuration, but limited is the price is not cheap.

New brands so far have not been reaped yet because the shopping season has not yet arrived. Many businesses trading in this item say, every year, this time is the low season. Besides, economic recession also makes people more hesitant when buying machines. According to Ms. Tran Thi Minh Tam, it is not until the end of the summer that the purchasing power of this item becomes more exciting because then the preparation for the new school year begins.
