Microsoft is optimizing Windows Search, committing to a faster and more accurate experience
But aside from convenience, Windows Search is not really appreciated in terms of speed and accuracy. In fact, the PowerToys Run utility and even the built-in search tool in File Explorer are both faster and offer a better experience than Windows Search.
In fact, problems with Windows Search performance were first 'flagged' back in 2017, and Microsoft is finally working on it. Improving performance for the Windows 11 Search tool will be one of Microsoft's key goals going forward, starting with Build 22557 in the Dev Channel for Insiders. Windows Search is still located directly on the taskbar and without any changes to the interface, but users will notice that search results appear faster and more accurately than before. That is the goal that Microsoft is aiming for.
After being improved, Windows Search will also be added with the ability to make automatic suggestions immediately to do everything as quickly as possible. Users can expect more accurate file or app recommendations when entering keywords in the search box.
To try out the difference of the new search feature, users can try to find apps or settings that they use frequently. There will be very noticeable differences in performance experience. In particular, Microsoft also fixed an issue that prevented users from finding new applications using Windows Search the first few seconds after it was installed.
As is known, Windows 11 through experience packages to update each different area of the operating system. So it's highly likely that the improvements to Windows Search will soon be carried over to the standard versions of both Windows 11 and Windows 10 in due time. But for now, the change is limited to the Dev Channel as a test, at build 22557.
