Voicemail is a system for recording messages from callers for later listening. Most people have a voicemail account through a mobile number or landline, but things can get a bit trickier if you don't have your phone with you.

Access your digital voicemail using your smartphone's touchscreen. On an iOS phone, tap the Phone app and look for the square in the bottom-right corner of the screen titled Voicemail. Click this button to make the voicemail appear on the screen. Select a voicemail and press Play to listen to the message. On Android phones, the voicemail icon is at the top left of the screen in the status area if you have an unheard message. Swipe down from the top of the screen to see notifications, and tap New Voicemail. The phone will start dialing the voice mailbox.

Call your mobile number by dialing the number on your phone, then enter your PIN or passcode when prompted. If you don't remember your phone number, you may need to find it again. Many phones automatically save the mobile number in their contacts under the name 'Me'. On an iOS smartphone, you can find your phone number by opening the Settings app and tapping Phone. With Android, go to Settings > About Phone > Status. The current phone number will be displayed here.

Occasionally, for privacy reasons, voicemails may be locked with a code you generate. After confirming your identity, you will be allowed to access voicemail.

Contact your mobile network provider if you don't remember your voicemail code. They can reinstall you over the phone and assist you with other issues. Look up the carrier-specific switchboard number online and call them.

Type an asterisk (*) or (#) and press the call voicemail button. In some cases, you don't have to press the call button, but you'll hear an automatic welcome voice before accessing voicemail.

Check to make sure that asterisks or pound signs are the correct keys to press. The key to press and when will vary depending on the mobile network provider. For most cell phone companies, it's usually one of the buttons above. Try both, if still not working then you can visit the telecom company's website or call the customer service switchboard.

Call Comcast, XFINITY, or cable voicemail by dialing *99. Note: this only works if you are calling from a home landline. You will then have to enter your password to access voicemail. Some newer phones allow us to simply press the voicemail button on the device and enter the password.

If you are calling from another phone that is not linked to your personal voicemail, dial the home number first and then press the pound sign (#) when you hear the automatic welcome voice. Enter the password when prompted and you will be allowed access to voicemail.

Check AT&T landline voicemail by dialing *98 on the phone screen. Enter password, pound sign (#) and access voicemail.

If you want to check your voicemail while away from home, you can enter your AT&T service access number (1-888-288-8893). Then, enter your ten home phone numbers along with the password, and follow the automated voice instructions to check your voicemail.

Press 9 at the beginning when you hear the greeting, or press the pound sign (#) after you have entered the service access number and home phone number. Enter password. You should then be able to access your voicemail.

Check your Vonage landline voicemail by dialing * 1 2 3 with your PIN. After reaching the mailbox, press 1 to listen to the new message. If you are calling from another phone that is not linked to your voicemail, you need to first dial the 11 Vonage phone numbers of the voicemail you want to check, then follow the same steps as above.

Go to the XFINITY Connect online page if you are an XFINITY customer, then log in with your User ID and password. Select the email card, click Voice & Text, and then click Voice. Here you will be able to access all your voicemails right on your computer.

Visit the Verizon Call Assistant call support website if you are a Verizon customer. Enter username and password. Don't be surprised if the website asks you to allow Verizon to access your phone records. After authorizing Verizon, you can select the Calls and Messages section in the left tab and then click Voice Mails to access voicemail.

Download the AT&T Voicemail Viewer app to your smartphone if you are an AT&T customer. This application allows users to forward voicemail to email.

Visit the Cox Mobile Phone Tools mobile phone tools website if you are a Cox Mobile customer. Enter your username and ID, then tap the Messages tab. All voicemails will be located here.
