Huawei was removed from the SD memory card association, will the future of SD memory card slot disappear on Huawei phones?
In just a few days, Huawei was continuously stopped by its partners such as Google, Qualcomm, Intel or ARM, due to the US government's week. The withdrawal of Google certificate from Android and ARM to stop providing chip rights will put Huawei at risk of serious fallout due to the lack of technology from US companies and the creation of a product that qualifies for hardware and software, can't even produce smartphones.
And recently, the name Huawei suddenly disappeared from the membership list of SD memory card association (SD Association).
Panasonic, SanDisk and Toshiba established SD Association on January 28, 2000 to set new standards for SD memory cards. Currently, the SD memory card association has more than 1,000 members, companies that produce SD memory cards and devices that support reading / writing around the world. You can visit the official website of the association here to see the member list of SD Association.
Manufacturers who want to produce devices that use SD memory cards are required to be members of SD Association.
According to the SD Association, the first step in being able to produce products that can read / write SD memory cards is to become a member of this association.
Huawei's removal from the SD Association membership list means that Chinese technology firm will no longer be able to produce any device that can read / write SD memory cards.
However, Huawei also has its own memory card standard called NM Card, which is smaller in size than Micro SD memory card and is about the same size as a Nano SIM. Huawei first introduced NM Card at the end of last year when it launched the Mate 20 and Mate 20 Pro. NM Card is also equipped for its latest high-end smartphone series, the P30 and P30 Pro.
But NM Card is only equipped on high-end smartphones, while the mid-range and cheap products of Huawei still have SD and Micro SD card reader slots. In addition, currently no other manufacturer uses NM Card.
