How to Play the Chrome Dino Game Online or Offline

Chrome includes a simple endless runner commonly called the Dino game or T-Rex Runner. It appears when Chrome cannot reach the internet, but you can also open it directly while online by entering chrome://dino in Chrome's address bar.

Play the Dino game while offline

1. Open Google Chrome after the device loses its internet connection.
2. Try to visit a page or open a new tab until Chrome displays the offline page with a pixelated dinosaur.
3. On a computer, press Space or the Up Arrow. On a phone or tablet, tap the dinosaur or game area.

The dinosaur starts running automatically. Your goal is to avoid obstacles for as long as possible while the speed gradually increases.

Play while connected to the internet

1. Open a new tab in Chrome.
2. Type chrome://dino exactly in the address bar and press Enter.
3. Press Space or tap the screen to start.

This is an internal Chrome page, not a website, so the address works only in Google Chrome and does not need quotation marks or spaces.

Chrome Dino controls

Jump shortly before a cactus rather than holding the key too early. Later runs introduce airborne obstacles, where ducking may be safer than jumping. The current score and best score appear at the top of the game.

Why the Dino game may not appear

• Another browser is open: chrome://dino is a Chrome-only address.
• Chrome is out of date: Update the browser and restart it.
• A work or school policy blocks it: Administrators can disable the dinosaur Easter egg on managed devices. Do not try to bypass that policy.
• The offline page is different: A network login portal, DNS tool, security product, or custom error page may replace Chrome's normal offline screen. Use chrome://dino when permitted.

Quick play tips

• Watch the space immediately in front of the dinosaur rather than the score.
• Use short, deliberate inputs; repeated taps can make landing harder to judge.
• Keep the browser window wide enough to see approaching obstacles.
• If flashing or fast-moving graphics cause discomfort, stop the game and take a break.
