Instagram 's message mode helps secure your messages, as all messages will be deleted if you leave the chat. This prevents your private messages from being accidentally read by someone else. All messages automatically disappear when you exit message mode on Instagram. Below are instructions on how to activate message mode on Instagram.
What is Vanish Mode?
Vanish Mode launched on Facebook Messenger in 2020, but it has also been added to Instagram's messaging features. The feature allows users to create and join temporary chat threads that are automatically deleted when the chat ends.
Instagram's temporary mode is very similar to Snapchat's self-delete feature, but it will only work if you manually enable it in two-person conversations – it doesn't work in group chats.
How to enable temporary mode on Instagram
There are two different and very simple ways to enable temporary mode on Instagram.
Method 1: Turn on temporary mode on Instagram when messaging.
Step 1:
First, on the Instagram interface, tap the message icon in the upper right corner. Then, in the conversation interface, tap on an existing message or enter the account name to send a message.
Step 2:
In the messaging interface, you will need to swipe the messaging screen from the bottom up . Immediately, the Instagram messaging interface will turn black, a temporary mode on Instagram.
Step 3:
Now you can message on Instagram as usual. When the other person takes a screenshot, you will receive a notification.
Once a message you send in this temporary mode has been read and you exit the conversation, that message will disappear.
Method 2: Enable temporary Instagram mode in the settings.
Step 1:
In the regular Instagram messaging interface, you would tap on the other person's account name .
Step 2:
Then, in this options interface, you just need to activate the temporary mode .

Method 1: Temporarily disable Instagram's photo mode by dragging and dropping.
With this drag-and-drop gesture, you can easily turn off temporary mode on Instagram. On the Instagram temporary mode screen, swipe up from the bottom to exit this mode.
The result will be that you return to the normal Instagram messaging interface. Note that any messages in temporary mode will disappear when you turn off Instagram's temporary mode.
Method 2: Turn off Instagram's temporary mode in the settings.
Also in the Instagram temporary messages interface, you tap on the name of the Instagram account that is messaging you.
Now you'll see that the temporary mode is activated. Simply slide the circular button to the left to turn off Instagram's temporary mode .
How does the temporary mode work?
Before you start using Instagram's temporary mode, here are some important things to keep in mind:
You can only use temporary mode in one-on-one conversations – it won't work in group chats. Additionally, you'll only be able to use temporary mode with contacts you follow or have recently contacted. If someone else takes a screenshot of your message in temporary mode, you'll receive an immediate notification, and vice versa.
Only messages and media you send after you turn on temporary mode will disappear. Other messages you send when temporary mode is off will remain permanently unless you choose to cancel them. If you're unsure, here's how to cancel messages directly on Instagram.
If you accidentally send a message without Vanish Mode enabled, your message will appear just like any other message. Vanish Mode will not automatically hide messages you send by mistake.
Why should you use temporary mode?
Temporary mode is the perfect option for you if you're worried about snoops watching your conversations. If safety and privacy are important to you, then you should take advantage of this feature.
You can also use Vanish Mode if you want to have a private conversation with another Instagram user. For example, if you're planning a surprise party for friends or family, you can share details with others using Vanish Mode to minimize the possibility of information leaks.
