How to Do Well in Your School's Play (Kids)
Part 1 of 3:
Auditioning
-
Read the script to yourself. Think about how the characters act.- Recognize character traits, such as if they're nice, mean, or pretty.
- It can help to write the story in your own words. This can help you gain an understanding of the play.
- Make sure you understand the play and its main points.
- A good way to get to know it more is to say it aloud.
-
Prepare to audition. The steps below will help you to prepare:- Decide which character you want to play. If you're not that experienced, try a smaller part. If you want to go all out and feel you're ready, go for a bigger part.
- Memorize your lines. This will enable you to focus on your character during the audition.
- Then, make a story for your character. This includes their past, fears, talents, and traits. Make sure your story corresponds with the script.
- Practice your part.
-
Arrive at the audition. Make sure you're prepared and ready.- Bring the appropriate props if needed.
- Revise your lines before the audition.
- Remember to appear happy, because you are happy to be there and want to get a part. This is your time to shine.
-
Once you get your results, be happy with what you get. Any part is a good contribution to the play!
Part 2 of 3:
Preparing for the Play
-
Go to all the rehearsals. This will ensure you know what's going on in the play.- If you're going to miss a rehearsal, remember to tell your teacher/director.
- During rehearsals, pay attention to the instructions you're given.
-
Practice your part. Practice makes perfect, so make sure to practice your lines until you feel like you could say them in your sleep.- During this time, you can expand on your character.
Part 3 of 3:
Performing the show
-
Arrive with all the things you'll need.- Remember to bring your props, as they are very important.
- Remember to bring your costume..
-
Perform the show!- Pay attention to when it's your time to go on stage.
- If the audience laughs, let them quiet down a bit before you continue saying your lines.
- Leave knowing you killed it!
- When performing, pay attention to your character and try to portray the character you're acting.
- If singing a song, feel the tune and try to feel the overall emotion of the song.
- Remember to speak loudly so everybody could hear you! Don't yell, though. Most of the time, you should speak in a voice that is slightly louder than your normal voice (unless your part is different).
- Show confidence in yourself. Unless your part is somebody who is fearful, feel confident and be confident!
- Remember that this is your time to shine, show them what you've got!
- To help calm nerves, you can get lost in the play and truly have fun! It'll show in the end result as well.
-
Have fun!
