How to connect Wifi to desktop, PC
WiFi is more popular on desktop computers, but not all PCs have WiFi. With WiFi on PC you can connect to the network without wires, store WiFi hotspots for other devices.
Adding the ability to catch / play WiFi for PC is not too difficult. Here are ways to help desktop computers connect to WiFi, please consult.
Why do you want to connect WiFi to the desktop?
Of course, if you can go wired in the home network, using a wired network without any problems, you definitely won't think of connecting to WiFi for the PC. Because the wired network is always faster, more stable than WiFi.
But in case, your computer has to move a lot in the house / office, it is not possible to go to the device properly, using WiFi will be more useful. Not to mention, with the ability to distribute WiFi, the computer connecting to the wired network can play WiFi to your other devices, if you don't have a WiFi modem.
Use WiFi adapter
This is the most convenient and easiest method for adding WiFi to the desktop. You only need to plug the adapter into the USB port on your computer and so you can use WiFi. The most time consuming process is probably the first time you use it, when you have to install the driver. From the next time, you just need to plug and play.
Advantages:
Convenient, easy to use: just plug and use, can be removed when not in use, can be taken and used on other machines.
Price is quite soft: In Vietnam, you can buy USB Wifi with the price from about 200,000 VND, even cheaper. More expensive devices will have more functions.
Because the adapter uses a USB port, you can use a USB hub so that plugging in the adapter is more flexible - instead of fixing it to the USB port on the machine - thereby allowing you to place the adapter in other locations to adapt the adapter. Get WiFi farther.
Defect:
The biggest nuisance this method brings is that it may not work when your PC is in sleep mode (probably because this depends on the motherboard model). Sleep is a power saving mode used by a lot of people and if you use this method (additional WiFi for desktop), you may have to sacrifice that. So far, there is almost no solution to this problem, except that you turn off the sleep feature of the device.
WiFi PCI card
In addition to using a WiFi adapter, you can add a WiFi card to your computer. This means you will have to open the computer, insert a WiFi card into the PCI Express or PCI Express Mini slot or similar dedicated slot. If the computer is designed to be easily removable and you need a more stable connection, a longer distance, the WiFi card will be a better choice.
The price of a WiFi card is slightly higher than USB WiFi, usually falling around VND 500,000 or more.
Advantages:
The biggest advantage of WiFi cards is that the card can take advantage of the router's antenna number. Specifically, if your WiFi card also has 2 (or more 2) antennas, and your router also has the corresponding antenna number, your WiFi connection will be more stable than the above adapter solution. .
If the number of USB ports on your computer is limited in number, while the PCI slot on the motherboard is redundant, then the WiFi card is also a better choice.
Defect:
As the nature of each method, WiFi card is not an ideal choice if you need to use WiFi for multiple desktops. It can only be fixed for 1 device. The adapter is the opposite, ideal for carrying away elsewhere for use in many computers.
There are not many PCI cards that support 801.11ac standard, and if they do, their selling price is also more expensive than this standard adapter.
Integrated WiFi motherboard
It can be said that this is a solution that is not suitable for many users. Because this means they have to spend a lot of money to buy a motherboard, while it only adds WiFi to the machine - which they can save with the solutions above. However, in case you need to upgrade your computer, the choice of integrated WiFi motherboard is also recommended.
In some cases, you should also consider upgrading your motherboard with WiFi instead of using a WiFi card or adapter solution. That's when you're using a fairly old motherboard model. At this time, although the upgrade of the board will definitely be more expensive than buying a WiFi card or adapter, in return you will get a newer PC, enough for 4 - 5 years.
Some other points to note
With the above analysis, you can now choose the best method for you. However, during the upgrade process, you need to pay attention to some other points such as choosing the type of adapter that matches the speed of your network (choose standard N adapter instead of standard G or even choose the AC standard type if your router you are compatible).
