How to check battery status and usage on Apple Watch
If you want to check your Apple Watch's battery status and usage, you can view this information right in the Settings app. This is useful if your Apple Watch battery doesn't seem to last as long as it used to, or you just want to make sure it stays at maximum capacity for as long as possible.
How to check Apple Watch battery health and usage
Shorter battery life doesn't necessarily mean there's a problem with your watch. Battery degradation is a common process that causes the Apple Watch's battery to deteriorate over time, gradually reducing its capacity.
This is normal for any rechargeable battery, and it happens to all devices, including iPhones. You can slow down battery degradation, but there's no way to stop it.
If you have an older Apple Watch, its battery may no longer operate at maximum capacity. Here's how to check your Apple Watch's battery health:
- Press the Digital Crown on your Apple Watch to show all apps.
- Go to Settings.
- Scroll down and select Battery.
- Scroll down and tap Battery Health.
You can then see the Maximum Capacity percentage that your Apple Watch battery can currently reach. This is a percentage of its original capacity; 80% is typically when the battery is considered drained and may need to be replaced. Further down, you will also see a toggle to activate or deactivate Optimized Charging for your Apple Watch.
Note: While you can't tell which apps use the most battery on your Apple Watch, you can see detailed information about your Apple Watch's battery usage by opening the Settings app and tapping Battery. There you'll see a graph showing the battery level when the battery is depleted and charged in the last 24 hours.
Your watch will also tell you when the last charge was and what percentage of charge it was. For example, it can say the last charge was 92% and display the date that happened.
Just as there are ways to save battery on your iPhone, there are also methods to help the battery on your Apple Watch last longer over long periods of use. The battery health and usage details you can see may not be as accurate as on your iPhone, but by monitoring them, you'll get a better idea of how well your Apple Watch battery is performing - even after you been using it for a long time.
