Christine R. Yano, an anthropologist at the University of Hawaii , has studied many cartoon characters tasked with organizing Hello Kitty related specimens at the Japanese American National Museum. While doing the exhibition she happened to discover this truth.

According to the Los Angeles Times , when preparing documents for the exhibition, Yano described Hello Kitty as a cat. Then the company Sanrio has corrected her. " Sanrio helped me adjust the script for the program. Hello Kitty is not a cat. It is a cartoon character, not a cat. She is never described as a four-legged walk. She went and sat like a bipedal, even she had a pet cat named Charmmy Kitty, " Yan o said.

Currently Wikipedia still publishes Hello Kitty as a Japanese Bobtail cat .

This story caused many people to start wondering whether Micke was a rat, and Donald was a duck?
