Gemini AI Can Now Watch YouTube Videos for You, Saving Hours of Time

Google Gemini's recent update can now help you know what long YouTube videos are about without watching them.

Watching a long, boring YouTube video to get a quick bit of information is a thing of the past. Google's recent Gemini update can now help you know what long YouTube videos are about without watching them.

Google introduced a bunch of new features with the general release of Gemini 2.0 Flash earlier this week. One of them is particularly useful for YouTube. AI can watch videos, answer questions about the video, or even provide summaries. The feature is available on the Gemini website or via the smartphone app, even for free users without a Gemini Advanced subscription.

To use this feature, make sure to select the Flash Thinking Experimental with apps 2.0 model from the sidebar.

For example, the author of the article watches a YouTube video about 8 travel tips for Las Vegas. Instead of watching the entire video, simply ask Gemini, "What are the 8 travel tips in this video?", and Gemini will then process the video and provide a brief summary of the travel tips.

The author also asked Gemini to summarize a video about replacing the windshield wipers on a Honda CR-V, a chore that needed to be completed. The result was simple and straightforward, allowing the author to glance at the iPhone screen to do the work instead of constantly pausing and restarting the video during the process.

The easiest way to get a YouTube link is through a web browser or the Share button below the video.

A perfect way to use AI and save time

You can always find interesting content to watch, like full, legal movies on YouTube. But there are times when YouTube is the source of information we need quickly. In those cases, getting a quick summary through Gemini is great.

With OpenAI and plenty of competitors like Gemini, finding a free AI chatbot isn't hard, so if you haven't tried Google's AI yet, there are some great reasons to give Gemini a try.
