EarPods have also switched to a USB Type-C port

Apple first changed the connection port of Earpods when it abandoned the 3.5mm jack and switched to the Lightning port on the iPhone 7.

With the launch of the new iPhone 15 models, Apple is finally taking a long-awaited big step: Eliminating the Lightning connector and replacing it with USB-C across the entire iPhone line. This is a step that the company has gradually taken with iPads, iPhones and of course accessories towards a common charging port standard across the industry.

If you're an iFan, but don't like the design or price of the Airpods wireless headset line, the 'legendary' wired EarPods model has been available as an alternative for many years. More specifically, Apple has now also equipped a USB-C port for EarPods to provide better compatibility with the new iPhone 15 and many other hardware products.

Apple first changed the connection port of Earpods when it abandoned the 3.5mm jack and switched to the Lightning port on the iPhone 7. This traditional wired headset model is still 'included' as an accessory with the device. With the iPhone 12 line, Apple began to remove it and sell it separately for $20.

Overall, EarPods have become less popular over the years since Apple released AirPods in 2016 and removed the headphone jack on the iPhone. However, Earpods are still alive and have been an iconic Apple product for a long time. Now that the iPhone is eliminating the Lightning port, EarPods are once again taking a new step forward by switching to the USB-C connector.

Apple says EarPods with the new USB-C port will only work on devices that also have USB-C running iOS 17, iPads with iPadOS 16.4 or later, or Macs with macOS Monterey 12.6 or later. It is unclear whether the new EarPods will work on non-Apple devices, because although they can connect via USB-C, compatibility will depend on many other factors.
