Chihuahua

These teacup-sized dogs are so small that sometimes you don't even notice them when someone carries them in a bag. According to Guinness World Records, the smallest Chihuahua ever was named Pearl and was only about 3.59 inches tall.

Marmoset

 

This tiny creature looks and acts like a small squirrel, climbing trees and branches in the rainforests of South America. But the pygmy marmoset is actually the world's smallest monkey, weighing just 3 to 5 ounces (0.14 kg).

Miniature horse

Miniature horses are certainly not the smallest animals on this list, but they are just too cute to be on this list. The smallest living miniature horse was a male named Bombel, and he was just 22.36 inches (0.6 m) tall. The shortest female horse ever, Thumbelina, was just 17 inches (0.4 m) tall and passed away in 2018.

Dwarf Rabbit

The pygmy rabbit is the world's smallest rabbit, measuring just 9 to 12 inches (0.3 m) long and weighing less than a pound (0.4 kg). The species is endangered and is found only in a few western states, including Washington, Idaho, Utah, Wyoming, and Montana.

Mouse lemurs are so small that they can fit in the palm of your hand. The smallest species is Madame Berthe's mouse lemur, which is the world's smallest primate and weighs an average of just 33 grams.

Brookesia nana chameleon

This chameleon is small enough to fit on the tip of your finger. A new addition to the world's smallest animal list, this tiny lizard was discovered in 2012 on the island of Madagascar. At just 13.5mm long, it's easy to miss unless you look closely.

Dwarf three-toed jumping mouse

The pygmy three-toed gerbil is the world's smallest rodent. It weighs less than an ounce and stands about 1.7 inches tall. Some people compare its tiny body to a cotton ball, but be gentle if you encounter one. These little critters are tiny!

Royal Antelope

The royal antelope is the world's smallest antelope, standing just 10 inches tall and weighing no more than 6.6 pounds. These cute little animals live in the rainforests of West Africa, from Ghana to Sierra Leone, but the chances of seeing them are slim because they are mostly nocturnal.

Brazilian Flea Toad

This tiny amphibian, Brachycephalus pulex, is actually a frog, despite its nickname. It's about the size of a housefly—so small it could fit inside a dime. At just 7.1 mm long (females are slightly longer), B. pulex is the smallest known vertebrate.
