Choose the best resolution for a new laptop

On today's diverse laptop market, which resolution is best according to your needs?

If you are looking for a new laptop, processor, RAM and hard drive are not the only factors to consider. The screen also plays an important role. And not only the screen size, resolution is also a factor to note because it determines the definition of the laptop screen. However, not every high resolution is good but according to the demand of playing games, compiling photos or simply surfing the web, it needs different resolutions.

From 7 - 10 inches: mini laptop

The 7-inch screen of a mini laptop is limited to 800x480 pixels. With this resolution, the icons and text on the screen are big and easy to read, but if surfing the web will be annoying because you have to scroll horizontally to see the whole web page. So if you surf the web, you should upgrade to a 9-inch or 10-inch laptop with a resolution of 1024x600 pixels (like the Acer Aspire One and the MSI Wind NB). With this resolution, you won't have to drag horizontally across the screen much when surfing the web. HP's 2133 Mini-Note mini laptop has a resolution of 1280x768 pixels, but this resolution is too high for such a small screen.

From 10 - 12.1 inches: ultra-small laptop

These ultra-small laptops are designed to be portable everywhere but have more features and power than mini laptops. In general, lightweight ultra-small laptops are now popular at 11 inches. Some 11-inch laptops like the ASUS U2E, Lenovo IdeaPad U110, and Sony VAIO TZ series only have a standard screen resolution of 1366x768 pixels, with no other options. This resolution provides a balance between screen space and icon size and text (text).

For those who use a lot of computers, upgrading to 12 inches will be more comfortable. With a 12-inch laptop, if demand is just an office application and web surfing, the 1024x768 screen resolution is appropriate (like the Lenovo ThinkPad X61s). If you need multimedia applications, you should upgrade to a resolution of 1280x800 pixels.

From 13.3 to 15.4 inches: Multi-purpose Laptop

In this laptop line, the initial resolution is 1280 x 800 and the highest is 1920 x 12 usually only in high-end laptops for gamers. With daily calculations, a resolution of 1280x800 is appropriate. Some 13.3-inch laptops have this resolution like Apple MacBook, Dell XPS M1330, Sony VAIO CR and Toshiba Satellite U405. 1280x800 resolution is also standard with 14 and 15 inch laptops.

That resolution is standard with 14- and 15-inch laptops, but there are some exceptions. For example, a 14-inch Dell Inspiron 1420 and a 15.4-inch Dell Inspiron 1525 have an option of an additional $ 50 to upgrade the screen resolution from 1440 x 900 to 1680 x 1050 pixels. The resolution is suitable for those who compose photos or play games, with normal needs, the icons and text on the screen will be smaller, more difficult to read.

Also in this line, multimedia laptops and laptops for gamers like the Alienware Area-51 m15x and Dell XPS M1530, have a few more screen resolution options. For example, the Dell XPS M1530 has the option of upgrading to a 1440x900 pixel resolution, which costs US $ 50, and up to 1920x1200 pixels costs an additional US $ 100. Be aware that 1920x1200 pixel resolution exceeds the display of mid-range Nvidia graphics card 256MB.

From 16 - 20.1 inches: laptop replaced desktop

Most laptops in this screen size are for multimedia and gaming tasks. If demand does not exceed mail browsing, web surfing and office, the 1440x900 pixel resolution is appropriate. If you do multimedia applications or play games, you should raise the resolution to 1680x1050 pixels.
