Buying a Xiaomi EV has to wait 7 months

On its car application, Xiaomi announced that customers who order the newly launched SU7 electric vehicle (EV) may have to wait up to 7 months.

Xiaomi started allowing SU7 orders from March 28 after announcing a starting price of 29,870 USD. On the evening of March 29, the company said the number of pre-orders reached 88,898 units in just the first 24 hours.

Checking Xiaomi's car application on April 1, Reuters reported that the delivery time for the standard SU7 and Pro version could be 18 - 21 weeks, while the Max version with a price of nearly 42,000 USD takes 27 - 30 weeks. .

In order to boost sales, Xiaomi also launched two special car versions called 'Founder's Edition' that come with free gifts such as refrigerators. The first batch of 5,000 units sold out as soon as they opened for purchase.

On March 31, CEO Loi Quan announced that the company would open the second round of sales but did not disclose the specific quantity. He also said that during the process of receiving orders, Xiaomi blocked a number of unusual orders as well as orders placed by speculators.

SU7 is a mid-sized sedan equipped with a series of advanced technologies including LiDAR sensors, 11 HD cameras, 3 millimeter wave radars and 12 ultrasonic radars. Thanks to that, the car has the ability to park automatically and assist with driving.

This EV uses BYD's 73.6 kWh LFP battery or CATL's 101 kWh NMC battery. BYD batteries help the car travel 628km or 668km per charge, depending on the version. The corresponding numbers for CATL batteries are 800km and 750km. BYD batteries support 400V fast charging while CATL batteries use 800V fast charging.

Previously, Xiaomi announced that the standard version of SU7 and the Max version would be available to customers in April, and the Pro version in May.
