Unlike the iPhone, Apple did not cause any 'arrhythmias' with its watch naming structure. Since the first version was followed by the Apple Watch Series 1. The company has used the annual numbering. Hence, we can most likely expect the watch of 2021 to be called the Apple Watch Series 7.

Apple usually holds its iPhone launch event every September, and the next version of the Watch is usually announced around the same time. Of course, things don't quite go the 'normal' way in 2020. Apple Watch Series 6 and Watch SE were revealed ahead of the iPhone 12 series on September 15, 2020.

A patent has been filed by Apple for a light sensor on the back. Their watches can illuminate the user's wrist and create a field image of the area. The image will have textures from your arm and should be as unique as a fingerprint. Allows Apple Watch to recognize who placed the Apple Watch and unlock it accordingly.
