Apple officially discontinues Clips video editing app after 8 years of operation
Apple has announced the discontinuation of its mobile video editing app, Clips , which was designed to help iPhone and iPad users create multi-clip videos quickly, without the need for timelines, tracks, or complex editing tools.
' The Clips app will no longer be updated and will also stop being available for download to new users starting October 10, 2025. You can still continue to use Clips on iOS 26 and iPadOS 26 or earlier ,' Apple said in a support document.
While Clips has been removed from the App Store, users can continue to use it if it was pre-installed on their device. You can also re-download it from the 'Purchases' section of your Apple account if you have previously downloaded the app.
The Apple Clips app lets users add speech bubbles, comic book filters, full-screen animated posters, and many other fun effects. It also has a built-in music library that automatically adjusts to the length of the video. Edited videos can be shared directly to Instagram , Facebook , Messages , or further edited using iMovie or other third-party apps.
Apple's support page also details how to save videos from Clips, both with and without effects, for later access. Note that you should save videos as complete video files rather than projects, and add them to your photo library or other storage platforms like iCloud Drive .
Since its launch in 2017 , Clips has received several major updates, adding HDR recording, augmented reality (AR) support, and other improvements. However, it should not be confused with App Clips , which only allows you to use a small part of an app without downloading the whole thing.
The discontinuation of Clips continues to add another 'name' to Apple's 'product graveyard'. Previously, 'Apple' also stopped selling many devices such as iPhone 16 Pro/Pro Max , Apple Watch Ultra 2 and AirPods Pro 2 , to make room for the new generation of products.
