Apple will stop using Intel chips on Macs from 2020, switching to 'homegrown' chips.

Bloomberg reported that Apple will replace Intel processors on the Mac with its own chips manufactured by 2020, starting with laptops like the 12-inch MacBook. Intel's stock price was affected as soon as the news was released. Bloomberg estimates that Apple contributes about 5% of Intel's annual revenue. Besides chips on Macs, Apple also uses Intel chips on some iPhone phones.

Apple's most recent major change on Mac processors is when they switch from IBM PowerPC chips to Intel chips. Apple co-founder Steve Jobs announced the change in 2005 and by the end of the year the conversion was completed.

Bloomberg also stated that this will be a multi-step transition. Intel chips will still be used on Apple's high-end devices such as the upcoming iMac Pro or Mac Pro remake, until they can create chips capable of meeting requirements.

Apple moves to use its own chips on every device

The decision to switch to the 'homegrown' chip on the Mac came after witnessing the evolution and change of ARM processors that Apple has used on its iOS devices like Apple Watch or Apple. TV in the past few years.
