Apple has officially confirmed that all Mac and iOS devices are affected by a serious CPU vulnerability called Meltdown and Specter. The flaw has disrupted the computing industry in the past 24 hours, putting many OSs and cloud architectures into the race to patch quickly.
'All Mac and iOS devices are affected, but until now, no cases have been detected,' Apple wrote on the blog. 'Since exploiting this vulnerability requires a malicious application, we encourage only downloading software from trusted sources such as the App Store'.
Apple is one of the last big tech giants to admit Meltdown and Specter, though most people believed that Apple devices were influential because they used chips from Intel and ARM. Apple said it has reduced somewhat the consequences of Meltdown with iOS (11.2), macOS (10.13.2) and tvOS (11.2) .
Apple finally confirmed it, no matter who guessed it
Apple said it is also planning to release Safari patch to help protect the previous browser Specter, which has a wider impact because it exploits the kernel memory process on chip architecture. The company also confirmed that previous Apple Watch watches used Intel chips but were not affected by Meltdown.
