Microsoft released an update for Surface, protecting it from Meltdown and Specter
Microsoft has released a number of updates to protect the Surface tablet against two serious security holes on the CPU.

Named Meltdown and Specter, these two vulnerabilities affect every device that has been launched in the past 20 years running Intel, AMD and ARM processors.
Surface machine has been updated
Installing the latest patches is the main way that users can now protect themselves against the two vulnerabilities mentioned above. In its article, Microsoft also said these vulnerabilities could affect cloud services and are trying to find ways to protect. Until now, there has been no actual attack on Windows machines that exploit these two vulnerabilities.
Below is a list of Windows 10 Surface machines that can be updated with a new patch:
- Surface Pro 3
- Surface Pro 4
- Surface Book
- Surface Studio
- Surface Pro Model 1796
- Surface Laptop
- Surface Pro with LTE Advanced
- Surface Book 2
The Microsoft representative also confirmed with The Verge that the updates were released. Users can download it by checking the system update on the computer or visiting the Microsoft Download Center page (https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4023482/surface-download-drivers-and- firmware-for-surface) . However, Microsoft also emphasized that users should wait for the appropriate firmware update for Meltdown and Specter instead of downloading the old versions.
