Researchers have revealed two serious security holes on the CPU called Specter and Meltdown at the beginning of this money. Meltdown is only available on Intel chips and attacks the way the CPU processes information. Security patches have been released, but as shown by The Register for the first time, they can slow PCs by 5 to 30%. Although Intel later confirmed that it depends on workload and for normal users it will be negligible. Because Intel has not officially released the patch, the actual impact is still not measurable.
Intel is not the only chip manufacturer affected. Specter errors appear on both AMD and ARM chips, the possibility is still more fixed and it is still unclear what the long-term consequences will be. Google also announced the release of the patch that will only affect the acceptable level. But if there is any further case involving Intel and their chip security error, it is not surprising.
