According to Cisco's early 2014 report, 99% of mobile malware targets the Android operating system. However, if devices run on the latest Android version, 77% of the hazards will be removed.
When asked about the amount of malware on Android, the project leader said, Android is really 'not designed to be safe' but to bring about 'freedom'.

According to statistics, there are still 20% of devices running on Android 2.3 Gingerbread platform, while the latest version 4.4 KitKat accounts for less than 2%. By the time of the survey, 27% of Android users were using the security-capable version, while the remaining 73% had serious security risks.
