Another 'ancient' version of Windows 10 is about to end support

We've already mentioned that Windows 10 will end support on October 14, 2025, and Microsoft has been urging users to move to Windows 11 as soon as possible. The company is also offering a year of extended updates (free and paid) for those who are determined to stay on Windows 10. However, it's worth noting that this isn't the only version of Windows 10 reaching end of life in the next three months.

On the Windows Health Release support page, Microsoft has just posted a notice reminding customers that: in addition to Windows 10 version 22H2 on the General Availability Channel, Windows 10 2015 LTSB will also stop being supported on October 14, 2025. For those who don't know, LTSB stands for Long-Term Servicing Branch , but is now commonly referred to as the Long-Term Servicing Channel (LTSC).

The LTSB/LTSC branch is for enterprise customers who need a stable operating system version with little or no changes over time. While it will receive security patches, it will not receive new feature updates. This version is primarily intended for critical industries such as healthcare and manufacturing.

Windows LTSC versions typically receive 10 years of support. The version that will end support in October 2025 is Windows 10 2015 LTSB. This is the original version of Windows 10 (using build number 1507). After its launch in 2015, Microsoft ended mainstream support for version 1507 in 2017, but LTSB customers get an additional eight years of extended support, which ends in three months.

After October 14, 2025, only the following LTSB/LTSC versions of Windows 10 will be supported:

  1. Windows 10 LTSB 2016 (version 1607)
  2. Windows 10 LTSC 2019 (version 1809)
  3. Windows 10 LTSC 2021 (version 21H2)

At this point, organizations running LTSC versions of Windows 10 should consider moving to Windows 11 LTSC. Currently, Windows 11 only has one LTSC release, version 2024 (24H2), which will receive mainstream support until October 2029.
