Security firm Panda Software warned that Sony's PlayStation Portable handheld game device could also be attacked by malicious code.
Panda said the malicious code proved to be capable of attacking Sony's portable gaming device through the security flaw that was released online.
All Sony PlayStation Portable versions with the ability to browse TIFF files can be infected with malicious code. The main reason Sony's device became a victim of virus was a buffer overflow security error that existed in the device driver software.
" It's really a particularly serious security error ," said Luis Corrons, PandaLabs's director.
Late last year, PandaLabs also discovered two malicious codes - Format.A and Tahen Trojans - programmed to attack the Sony PSP. These codes can delete files or make PSP paralyzed.
" We recommend that users do not install software downloaded from untrusted sources on Sony PlayStation Portable handheld game system. If you want to install such software, users first need to proceed. scanning for malicious codes , "warned Corrons.
