A meteor with a speed of 32,000 km / h is approaching Earth's orbit
2021 NY1, a giant asteroid, 3 times the size of the Statue of Liberty, is moving at high speed. According to NASA, 2021 NY1 will come close to Earth's orbit within the next few weeks, but the probability of a collision is very low.
2021 NY1 is one of 17 extraterrestrial objects tracked by NASA because of its proximity to our planet.
2021 NY1 has a diameter of about 130-300 m, is considered a large asteroid. This meteorite can reach speeds of more than 32,000 km / h.
According to scientists, the probability of 2021 NY1 colliding with Earth is very low, so we will not have to worry about this. It is estimated that this asteroid moves about 1.5 million km from us, nearly 4 times the distance from Earth to the Moon.
Another asteroid being tracked by NASA is 2021 QC1. It is smaller than 2021 NY1 but also classified as large with a diameter of 71-160 m. This asteroid is flying about 4.8 million km from Earth.
In early August, NASA also announced the new discovery of asteroid Bennu, one of the two most dangerous asteroids in the Solar System and potentially threatening human life. According to this announcement, Bennu can hit the Earth inside with a probability of 1/2,700, and the time of this is on September 24, 2182.
