A Beginner's Guide to Sifu

The martial arts game Sifu gives players the feeling of a movie about KungFu and revenge. One day, a villain named Yang arrives at the door of his master's house (Sifu), and asks Sifu to teach a forbidden technique.

Sifu refuses and dies, leaving his son or daughter (depending on the player's choice) to stay to stop Yang. They couldn't do it in their current state, but trained hard so they could one day fight Yang and his gang.

How death works

There is no difficulty mode in the game at the start. There are also no support options to make the game easier. Players should know that Sifu is a brutal challenge, the only way to overcome it is through real-world experience and practice.

When the player dies, they are resurrected on the spot at the cost of age. Players must complete the game within their lifetime, which usually ends in their 70s.

The game has move upgrades but no health and other permanent stat buffs. Sifu may seem like an incredibly challenging roguelike game, but dedication and practice can make overcoming it all the more possible.

Choose one move at a time and master it

Players can use experience points to buy new martial arts moves along their journey. These moves can be unlocked permanently by spending more. Gamers should make one move, each time fighting to unlock. Buying skills without being able to fully unlock them would be quite wasteful.

It takes a long time to unlock every move in the game this way, but it's a good strategy. Some good ways to get started include focused attacks like foot sweeps along with regular slide kicks.

Learn the moves

From dodges to powerful punches, there are plenty of combos for players to memorize in Sifu. Since the only way is to experience the real thing, have the character practice these moves at home.

There is a dojo, where players fight opponents who just stand still or try to fight back. Everyone can refer to the TOP of the strongest attack combos in Sifu and apply it to their play.

Temple Upgrade

Temples are found in each stage. There are 3 categories with 3 options in each category, for a total of 9 stat upgrades. Each category takes away from the player something including age, score or experience.

Although it can slow down the movement upgrade, it is recommended that players purchase the Focus Meter in the experience category as soon as possible. From there, alternate between enhancing health and balancing stamina. Weapon upgrades are also very useful, in order to do more damage and have better durability.
