4 benefits of reading a book habit more than once
Years ago, I enrolled in a thinking language programming course (Neuro Linguistic Programming) and was told that the way I received information was strongly influenced by something.
Most people think that they only need to hear something once and after that, will naturally follow it. However, the problem is that the subconscious does not work in such a way. This area contains everything in your mind - these are things you are not aware of - they "compete" for attention, leading to only when you hear it over and over again until you reach out. In order to realize that "it's important information", you can remember them and higher and make them a habit. Understanding this mechanism, you can apply to reading, taking courses, workshops and anything else you load into your brain in an effort to form a good lifestyle.
That's why I always try to read each book more than once and the benefits of this wonderful habit are much more than that.
1. You are more likely to remember information
To remember what you have read, the best way, according to many people, is to write them down on paper. However, re-reading is another great way. Unlike the first time you read through the speaker, your goal in the re-reading is to examine and study the author's message carefully. Therefore, the ability to remember important information is higher than the previous reading.
2. You read the information that was accidentally missed during the first reading
Whenever I reread a book, I also find it interesting to know a few places I have accidentally missed, such as a quote, an example, a situation or a sentence. link. In this way, I have a new idea, I take notes and use them for my writing later.
Not sure if 100% of you have read every sentence, every word of the work in one read, and I assure you, you'll be surprised that some of the details you missed contain a lot of interesting information. . Sometimes, that may be what you're looking for.
3. You have the ability to apply them more effectively
If you read and hear something, you are more likely to turn it into action - Zig Ziglar.
With each ebook, I tried to listen to both audiobooks and paper books.
For example, I have heard audio Broadcasting Happiness. I realized that some readers' ideas conveyed great value and therefore, I decided to have the book. Thanks to reading and listening again and again, I began to change my thinking and planned to follow what the book author shared.
4. The lasting impact of the information you read
If you've ever attended a seminar, a weekend sharing session or motivational presentation, you will experience a very different feeling. You see your spirit is very high. You sit there and convince yourself that you will completely change your life. You will write the book you are thinking about. You will start your business . However, one day or two days after returning home, that "instant" feeling disappears and everything goes back to the way it was.
One of the reasons for this state is the environment. The room in which the event takes place is always designed so that the participants will all have the same emotion and surely, after the end of the program, you can hardly participate again ( unless the event is reorganized multiple times with the same content).
Reading is the same. There are motivational books, inspiring living or developing yourself, if you only read once, you can hardly grasp the whole spirit that the author wants to convey. Even if it does, the feeling of urgency quickly disappears if you don't read it again.
In a shared article called How to Stay Motivated, speaker Zig Ziglar shared with everyone the following story: "Someone once told me: 'Whenever you are mentally down, I will listen to his audio and it helped me get more motivated '. I replied:' Why do you have to wait until you fall down to do so? It's like you keep waiting until the empty box is new fill the pitcher with water, while you need it every day? "
This Zig story wants to say that if you read a book that works for you, read them many times, not just when you need to read it again. Their impact lasts very long and you will benefit from maintaining the habit of looking back on them.
Conclusion
Here are some ways I apply when reading books, you can refer to:
- Read them again, but read only the content you want to study more carefully.
- For the first book, you just read through it, during the re-reading, learn them from the beginning to the end.
- If you don't have much time to read it again, listen to audio when you walk, walk in the park, do housework .
- Don't underestimate the value of a book when you're only reading it once.Read it a second time and you will see a lot of meaningful things that you have accidentally ignored.
