You may not believe it but the glacier in Montana is disappearing
According to a new survey, the Montana glaciers have rapidly shrunk over the past 50 years.
In 1966, Montana was known to have 39 named glaciers, including stable ice sheets larger than 25 acres, believed to be the spectacular "glacier" paradise. Today, only 26 glaciers remain intact.
Reportedly, during the past five decades, 39 glaciers have narrowed about 39% and some have lost 85% of the ice volume. Scientists conducted a US geological survey, collecting data relating to 37 glaciers in Glacier National Park and two glaciers on land managed by the US Forest Department.
Daniel Fagre, a leading researcher and scientist at the USGS Institute, said: " The loss of ice across the park can lead to ecological effects on aquatic species by changing the amount of spring water and temperature. water and time of migration, hiding at higher altitudes in the park '.
Researcher Andrew G. Fountain said: " While the ice narrowing in Montana is more serious than some other places in the US, it is also leading the extreme weather trends that are taking place across the whole demand for climate change " .
The researchers used a combination of aerial imagery and field exploration to track the narrow dimensions of glaciers that combined data on the glaciers used from the survey available at the site. USGS ScienceBase.
