Bphone A85 5G may no longer be 'Made in Vietnam' (updated: October 30)

During the live online exchange on October 29, Mr. Nguyen Tu Quang, CEO of BKAV, confirmed that the company would switch to a new production method to reduce product prices and attract more users. New Bphone models including Bphone A85 5G will not be designed by the company itself, but ordered from an original equipment manufacturer. Bkav writes software and imports hardware assemblies for assembly in Vietnam.

If you remember, most of the previous generation Bphone models, BKAV affirms that they are autonomous in all stages from design to production. However, this method makes the product development process time-consuming and the machine price is much higher than models with the same configuration and specifications on the market.

Moreover, hiring ODM manufacturers is quite common nowadays, especially with big brands. Samsung ,  OPPO  or  Xiaomi  have a large percentage of mid-range and low-cost devices using the same original equipment manufacturer. With a large number of machines, product prices are more competitive than if each company researches its own model. However, the disadvantage of this method is that many machines of different brands on the market have the same design.

Personally, I have no opinion on this, but I hope that Bphone products in general and Bphone A85 5G model in particular will still have BKAV's own features so that users can easily identify the brand.

When will Bphone A85 5G be released? How much does Bphone A85 5G cost?

According to Mr. Nguyen Tu Quang, CEO of BKAV, Bphone A85 5G model is expected to be launched and sold in Vietnam market in December with color options including dark blue, light blue and white.

Although the price information of this smartphone has not been disclosed, but according to information from a representative of BKAV, the A series models will be in the mid-range and low-cost segments. The naming of the A series is also to distinguish it from the B series, which is positioned by the company in the higher price segment.

If this information is true, I personally think that Bphone A85 5G will probably be the most advanced version of the A series, but the price of the device is still in the range of 6 - 8 million. I hope the price of Bphone A85 5G will be the same as that of Bphone B40 or B60 at the time of launch. To make it easy for you to imagine, this smartphone duo at the time of launch was priced at 5.49 million and 6.99 million respectively.

The design of Bphone A85 5G has not changed too much compared to its predecessor

At the present time, the images of the Bphone A85 5G are still very few and we still have to wait a while for the new information to become clearer. According to the latest information that I have learned, Bphone A85 5G will have a different design from its brothers, Bphone A40, A50 and A60. 

If the above information is true, I think that Bphone A85 5G will have the same appearance as the elder Bphone B86. Specifically, the upcoming device of Bphone may have a minimalist design with thin screen borders and no chin. However, the top screen border of Bphone A85 5G will be thickened to create a unique feature for the device in particular and the Bphone series in general. Besides, Mr. Nguyen Tu Quang also shared about the next generation after BPhone B86 and B86s will have its own design language, philosophy and the change mentioned by this CEO mainly comes from optimizing 0.2 mm screen border.

Accompanying that, CEO Nguyen Tu Quang also posted a draft of the phone that is said to be the next generation Bphone. We can see the thickness of the bezel is X mm, which means that BKAV has not yet revealed exactly what this screen border size is. But through the picture below, I see that the screen border of the 5th generation Bphone has shrunk significantly compared to the previous generation, just as this CEO said.

Besides, I can also predict that Bphone A85 5G will probably be BKAV's next smartphone without physical keys or buttons to create a more seamless feel for the device. In general, I personally still hope that Bphone A85 5G will have a makeover in terms of design compared to previous generations and I am very much looking forward to the official launch date so I can see what the device will look like.

Configuration of Bphone A85 5G is upgraded with the first 8" Snapdragon chip

Currently, information about Bphone A85 5G configuration is still a mystery, so I will rely on previous generations of Bphone to make predictions about the configuration of the upcoming Bphone model.

As I mentioned at the beginning of the article, Bphone A85 5G will be the most advanced smartphone of the A series so I hope that Bphone A85 5G will be equipped with Snapdragon 860 chip or at least Snapdragon 7. I think this is a necessary improvement because previous generations of Bphone such as the duo Bphone B86/B86s or Bphone B40/B60 all used the first Snapdragon chips 6. Equipping a more powerful chip not only helps Bphone A85 5G score points in the eyes of users, but also provide a smoother user experience.
