When you insert the Leopard disc and boot from it, you will find that you have three options to Upgrade Mac OS X, Archive and Install and Erase and Install.

The first option, Upgrade Mac OS X , adjust and upgrade the current OS X installation (including Apple apps like Mail, Address Book, iCal, etc. Included in OS X). Since AppleWorks and iWork '09 are not integrated in OS X, they will remain intact.

The second option, Archive and Install . Under this option, you will see the Preserve Users and Network Settings option. Please activate that option. When you select this installation option, you will have a copy of the new OS X installation files (the old version will be placed in the folder named Previous System).

As long as you enable Preserve Users and Network Settings, AppleWorks and iWork '09 will work the way they usually do.

The last option, Erase and Install , deletes data on the boot drive (including your apps) and new settings. Select this option, you will lose copies of AppleWorks and iWork '09 along with the data on your Mac. Only select this option if you want to completely refresh and backup your data safely.
