Top 10 most dangerous malware in October

UK security firm Sophos has just released a list of the Top 10 most dangerous and widespread malware in October.

According to this list, the Netsky-P worm continues to be the malicious code with the fastest spread rate in the month. Up to 15.2% of all malware infections notices sent to Sophos in the past month were reported to be infected with Nestky-P. Especially in some days the number of reports of Nestky infection accounted for 50% of the total number of virus infections reported to Sophos during the day.

This is a well-known worm that "takes meat over you". The worm does little harm to infected PCs, but its main function is to spread its variants via the list of emails stored on the infected system. Therefore, the appearance of Warezov worm variant in the list of Top 10 most widely distributed malware in October is completely understandable.

However, the most dangerous point of this worm is its ability to automatically create new variants every 30 minutes thanks to a special type of software on the server. This is the feature that makes security experts have a headache.

Sophos experts warn that despite the Get Safe online project - a project to enhance users' understanding of Internet hazards - has just celebrated its launch year but the rate of infection of malicious code remains continue to rise even though there are other positive prevention measures. Experts say that user issues are the most important issue in security, not technology.

The rate of emails containing viruses in the past month has been maintained at a low level - only one out of every 300 emails sent has one virus (equivalent to 0.34%). Over the past month, Sophos has discovered a total of 3,076 new security threats on the Internet.
