Galilei (1564 - 1642), after his death, was buried in a tomb inside Santa Croce church, the largest church in the world of the Franciscan. This is also the resting place of many Italian celebrities such as Machiavelli, Michelangelo, poet Foscolo, Gentile philosopher and composer Rossini.
In 1737, the church authorities issued a decree that he could be buried in the sacred land, and Galileo Galilei's body was excavated and transferred to another tomb.
But in the process of excavating and moving, his fingers (thumb and middle finger on the right), a tooth and his vertebrae were enchanted by some thieves with the desire to become genius.Since then, parts of Galilei's body have been lost everywhere.
Some sources said that Galilei's two fingers were preserved by an Italian marquis in a glass jar to hold and pass them on to descendants from generation to generation.
In 2009, Galilei's fingers and teeth were sold at an auction.A collector bought the astronomers' upper body parts and returned them to Florence's Historical Science Museum.
After the museum authorities checked and confirmed that it was Galilei's lost body parts over the years, the lost fingers of the "modern science father" were displayed at Museum.
Today, visitors to this museum can see many other artifacts related to this scientist such as two telescopes, thermometers .
