The day of true wireless charging is coming
Do you want to use wireless charging - that is to say 'don't use wires' really, rather than putting on a surface to charge. That day may soon come when the FCC (Federal Communications Commission) has just approved the first 'power-at-a-distance' wireless charger.
There have been rumors of cooperating with Apple to produce wireless chargers - Enegous is the company behind WattUp, charging by radio (RF) from a maximum distance of 3 feet (nearly 1 meter).
This is the first FCC certification for remote wireless charging.
'Charging without wires - for example, charging health bracelets while still wearing - is something users always expect. We are bringing customers using electronic devices, IoT and smart houses at a faster pace, 'said Stephen R. Rizzone, Energous's president and CEO.
In the introduction video, WattUp shows that it is possible to charge multiple devices at once and stop when charging is complete. WattUp's charger (receiver) is very small and can be placed in almost any device, including water-proof items.
Although the idea is good, it must be seen in practice how it will work. Energous will be presented at the CES event early next year in Las Vegas, starting from 9/1.
