Supermoon and meteor shower appear together on the full moon night of July

On the full moon night of the 7th lunar month (August 12th lunar month), an amazing thing will happen: the supermoon and the biggest meteor shower of the year will take place at the same time.

This full moon is called the Sturgeon Moon, Super Blue Moon, or Super Seed Moon. This is the last supermoon of 2022.

A supermoon occurs when the moon is closer to the earth and is fully illuminated by the sun, making it appear larger and brighter than usual when viewed from earth.

What's special is that this supermoon coincides with the peak of the Perseid meteor shower. This is one of the two biggest meteor showers of the year and one of the most brilliant.

The Perseid meteor shower originates from the comet Swift-Tuttle. The Perseid meteor shower appears in the sky from July 17 to August 24 every year, reaching its peak on the night of August 12 and early morning of August 13 with a maximum frequency of 60-80 meteors/hour.

The supermoon appearing with a meteor shower will make observing meteors more difficult. However, according to experts, astronomy enthusiasts can still observe many bright and beautiful bands of ice if they choose the right time and wait patiently.

If you want to observe the Perseids meteor shower on the full moon night of July, astronomy enthusiasts should choose a time after midnight, choose a place with little light and air pollution. Therefore, viewers should check the weather forecast before observing.

Meteors can originate from the constellation Perseus or appear anywhere in the sky.
